3 Cryptos That Care For The Environment: Algorand, Cardano, And Big Eyes Coin

According to the Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, run by Cambridge University’s Centre for Alternative Finance, Bitcoin mining in 2022 consumed more energy than the Electricity consumption of Malaysia or Sweden each year. And another research from New Mexico university assessed that Bitcoin’s impact on climate is greater than gold mining.

The international crypto community has been trying to reduce its environmental footprint, as the crypto network continues to be accused of  destroying the ecosystem.  Here, we discuss the 3 cryptocurrencies Algorand, Cardano, and Big Eyes Coin (BIG) that care for the environment.

ALGO-The Pioneer Of Eco-Friendly Crypto

Algorand is one of the prominent cryptocurrencies in the market that was launched in 2019. It uses the proof-stake model to reduce carbon emissions during transactions. Alogrand has been a carbon-negative blockchain since 2021. On earth day in 2022, the Algogrand foundation rented Time Square and blocked out the billboards for one hour to promote awareness of climate change and carbon emissions. According to a statement from Algorand the block out saved 6,500-kilowatt hours of electricity which is equivalent to 350 million transactions on the Algogrand blockchain. It also uses a portion of its network fees to buy carbon credits through Climate Trade, an organization that helps companies to improve their sustainability profile.

Cardano – The Green Crypto

Cardano was created in 2017 by Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson. It uses the proof of stake protocol in which users pledge their coins for the right to validate transactions. It also enables cryptocurrencies to save a considerable amount of energy. Cardano uses the same amount of energy that would require for 600 houses in the US. According to some crypto experts and climate activists, Cardano is 47,000 more energy efficient than bitcoin. Because it doesn’t use mining to solve complex mathematical problems which would require thousands of powerful computers. Cardano also embarked on another mission to plant trees to make the world green. It has planted more than a million trees since January 2022 in partnership with Veritree.

Big Eyes Coin- The Savior of Marine Life

The Big Eyes Coin, a newcomer in the crypto market, has inspired many established crypto coins by its action toward saving the Oceans. Despite not even being launched, Big Eyes has made quite a few notable charities, in its presale stage, to help the international community. In its white paper published on the official website, Big Eyes Coin mentioned shifting wealth into the defi system and protecting an important part of the ecosystem as its main goal. It is obvious that most of the environmental problems that we face today are rooted in and around the oceans. From plastic pollution to overfishing to ever-increasing global temperature has been driving marine lives to the verge of extinction.

To change this toxic trend Big Eyes Coin has come up with a plan to donate 5% of its total supply to preserve the oceans and the marine life in them. The coin is built on the Ethereum blockchain that has recently switched to proof of stake consensus to reduce carbon footprint. The sushi crew NFT that Big Eyes coin is planning to launch will also spread awareness about climate change through art and events.
