Bitcoinist Review Corner: I Played The LegendsOfCrypto Game. Here’s What I Think

LegendsOfCrypto (LOCGame) game

In this inaugural report of the Bitcoinist Review Corner, we are going to be focusing on the LegendsOfCrypto (LOCGame) game. This game has been on my radar since someone from the team had first reached out to me sometime last year to take a look at what they were doing. I figured it was just another of the countless crypto token games that really were not going anywhere and are just trying to make a quick buck. But boy, was I wrong.

In December last year, the same person from the team reached out to tell me that they were launching the Alpha 1.5 version of their play-to-earn game. The game required cards to play, which are basically NFTs, and these packs were sold out before I even made it to the site.

Luckily for me, I got 4 packs of cards from the team containing 20 cards total that gave me at least 15 unique cards, which is required to play the game. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

Getting Into The LegendsOfCrypto Game

Since the game is new, I got a link to a Loom video where the CEO of Rebel Labs and LegendsOfCrypto explains how to access and play the game. The first part was not too hard, basically just logging in and making sure I’m connected to the site with the wallet I got the NFT cards on. However, getting into the actual game itself was a bit of a nightmare.

After it loaded, I got stuck on the initializing screen. I figured I would wait, give them some leeway. This is only the Alpha 1.5 version anyway, so lots of kinks to figure out. After waiting for what felt like forever, I decided to reload the page. This time, it loaded and initialized in seconds. Clicked to continue and I was in the game.

On this page, you can click on “Cards” which takes you to another window that describes what the cards do. You also get the option to mute sounds, which I didn’t do because I like the music. I rate it 5 stars for setting the mood.

I was prompted to log in again using my marketplace details after clicking on “Play”, which I did. Now I was really in the game and it was time to begin playing.

Playing The LOCGame

For starters, the overall feel of the game gave off a Tic Tac Toe vibe. The nine boxes and the cards have to the placed in each box. A nice blast from the past that left me feeling a bit nostalgic.

Playing the game itself presented another hurdle; I didn’t understand how the game worked/was scored. So I did the only reasonable thing, played the AI, and lost a bunch of times. But I began to get the hang of it. At this point, I was REALLY getting into it. So I played more, losing even more. After losing about 10 games in a row, I tied the AI. Cue celebratory dance.

In the end, the game did end up being a bit like Tic Tac Toe but with a bit more steps. You can essentially ‘kill’ the AI’s cards to reduce its points and increase yours, and vice versa.

Conclusion

Since this is only a demo version, it just shows what the final version of the game will be. So you don’t actually lose anything when you lost but the rush is still real.

This is the kind of game that would make a killing with a mobile version. Something you can play while stuck waiting for the bus or the train, or maybe just sitting in the lobby of the doctor’s office. It’s a low effort and engaging time killer, but unfortunately, it is only available on the web version, for now, best played using a Chrome browser.

I thoroughly enjoyed figuring out how the game works and then going toe-to-toe with the AI for numerous games. I’d personally be more inclined to spend time playing on mobile though, so I’m anticipating the release of a mobile version.

All in all, the LegendsOfCrypto (LOCGame) game is a great entry point for those who want to start getting into the crypto play-to-earn space. According to the team, players will be able to earn coins when playing the final version, which is basically crypto coins that they would be able to sell for fiat or other cryptocurrencies.
