9/2/14 marked the launch of the first comprehensive digital currency education site, Coin Academy. Read about the launch here.

The Review

Bitcoinist.net decided to try CoinAcademy and write a review about our experience. Watch the review below:

When a user lands on the homepage they will be prompted to listen to a guided tour of the service. I suggest watching as it gives you a full comprehensive outline of the service.

The website offers curated collection – that is existing online resources on digital currencies. Coin Academy has gone one step further and annotated the lessons for you as well as provide users with a quick summary and pros and cons over the content. Next is the “Coin Academy Courses”. These are original courses “created with the goal of publishing useful, authoritative tutorials that explain digital currencies in a practical manner.”

Getting Started

Once you’ve finished the tour proceed by clicking on the “Get Started” button. Next, you will be prompted to register and create a profile. After you confirm your email address you will be taken to your profile where you may add a picture and other information about yourself. Once you have created a profile you are ready to dive into the cryptocurrency rabbit-hole! How exciting.

Thoughts: I always get annoyed when I have to register a new profile on anything but Coin Academy makes this experience as painless as possible.

Before You Begin

One of the courses Coin Academy offers is a “Digital Currency Ownership-Before You Begin” course. The course provides information on proper encryption and digital security. Lessons learned include: “How to encrypt your Windows hard drive with Bitlocker” and “Backups & Offline Storage”.

Thoughts: I am glad Coin Academy took the time to create a “Before You Begin” course. The great thing about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is they allow the individual to “be their own bank” but as the ole’ addage goes “with great power comes great responsiblity”. It is the duty of the individual to know how to properly secure their digital property. Self-responsibility is of the upmost importance in the cryptocurrency sphere.

Bitcoin Courses

Coin Academy’s original courses focus on the most popular topics, including Bitcoin for everyone and Bitcoin for merchants. The original courses are really comprehensive.
Lessons covered include:

Bitcoin for Merchants is very informative for small business owners to corporations.
Topics covered are:

Other curated courses include: Bitcoin for Beginners and Bitcoin for Intermediates. Bitcoin for Beginners cover the basics and Bitcoin for Intermediates covers more of the economic principles and theory behind Bitcoin.

Thoughts: Very comprehensive coverage of Bitcoin. Really useful for both individuals and business owners.

Alternative CryptoCurrencies

The curated collections cover Bitcoin as well all the most popular alt-coins: Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ripple, NXT and Peercoin, with more to be added in the coming weeks.

Thoughts: I am not a cryptotrader but I have friends that are making a decent – yet stressful – living at cryptocurrency trading. It would be neat to integrate a cryptotrading tutorial for interested users.

The Future

Other courses currently in the catalog deal with security fundamentals and a broader history of the rise of digital currencies. I am sure all these topics will be expanded on. All courses are free of charge but donations in your favorite alternative currency and paypal are accepted.
