The year 2021 has been a tremendous growth year for cryptos in general, but none other has enjoyed more growth than meme coin Shiba Inu. The dog-themed crypto had grown out of obscurity to become one of the biggest cryptocurrencies by market cap for the year. This is also marked by the significant growth of its community that now sits well above the one-million-holder mark.

Its growth has not stopped at its price or the number of holders. In addition to marking one of the highest growth in the crypto, the coin was also making strides in the list of most-viewed coins on CoinMarketCap.

Shiba Inu Leads Most Views Coins

As 2021 draws to a close, we take a look back at some of the best performing cryptocurrencies of the year. One of these is looking at some of the most viewed coins on CoinMarketCap. Bitcoin and Ethereum no doubt made it to the top of this list, however, meme coins have dominated the list.

Meme coin Shiba Inu made a splash as the most viewed coin for the year. It came out ahead of pioneer cryptocurrency bitcoin, as well as number 2 crypto, Ethereum. Bitcoin came out at number 2 for the most viewed coin on CoinMarketCap. Rival meme coin, Dogecoin, placed 3rd on this list, fully tilting dominance towards meme coins which have had a mega year in 2021.

Smart contracts network Cardano came out in 4th place. Its native token had seen an incredible surge in 2021 so this appearance was not a surprise. Shockingly, Ethereum placed 5th on the same list. Given that the cryptocurrency is the 2nd largest by market cap and easily one of the most popular projects, it would not be a stretch to expect it to place higher up.

Nevertheless, these projects have had an incredible year and investors continue to watch for their progress.

Meme Coins Dominated In 2021

A little over a year ago, no one would really recognize the concept of meme coins if asked about them. Now, it is one of the most prominent cryptocurrencies for investors, serving as the first point of contact for most of the new crypto investors coming into the space.

2021 has proven to be the year of meme coins as most have recorded large growth in less than a year. The most important of these have been Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. Dogecoin had benefitted from the likes of Elon Musk shilling the digital asset, while Shiba Inu had fed off the gap left for there to be a competition after Dogecoin had grown incredibly large.

Both digital assets have made their fair shares of millionaires. They have also dominated things like search queries and social media discussions. Dogecoin came out as the top search in 23 of the 50 US states in November. On social media platforms such as Twitter, Shiba Inu and Dogecoin have consistently appeared on the most talked-about lists.
