Arlovski vs. Barnett

In the main event, there is a clash of styles. Andrei Arlovski is known for his striking and swarming on people, sometimes recklessly when he thinks they are hurt. Since being at Jackson-Wink, he has been able to refine his style, going on a four-fight win streak only to lose to the now-champion Miocic and top contender Overeem. Josh Barnett is all about the clinch and ground. He is known for his high-level grappling and ability to hold people against the cage or on the ground while he beats them up.

In this battle, Arlovski is going to want to stay on the outside and get in and out of striking distance. He has added to his arsenal the controversial oblique kick that the Jackson camp is known to use. It will be interesting to see what game plan Arlovski implements.

Barnett has a good submission game from the top on the ground. Not known for striking, Barnett opts to use combinations and kicks to the body to close the distance and get into the clinch.

I am going with the slight favorite Josh Barnett to win this one. Grappling just tends to happen in a fight. It is hard to avoid. Barnett doesn’t have to get a takedown, just hold Arlovski in the clinch and be active. That is what Barnett does. Barnett 1.67.

Ryan Bader vs. Llir Latifi

Bader has come a long way since winning TUF in 2008. He has improved his striking and is good at sticking to his game plan. He had a five-fight win streak, including victories over Ovince Saint Preux and Rashad Evens, before losing to Anthony Johnson in a brutal first-round knockout.

In this fight, Bader is going to want to get Latifi tired. Take him to the third round and take him down, or get a three-round decision — those are his best chances to win this fight.

Like Bader, Latifi has a strong wrestling background, but unlike Bader, Latifi has some serious punching power. Three of his five UFC wins have been first-round knockouts and four out of five wins have ended in the first round. Latifi has some crazy power on the inside and won’t be afraid to mix in some leg kicks.

I am going to stack some prop bets on this one. Latifi wins inside distance 4.710 / Bader wins by 3 round decision 2.65.

Some other exciting fights on this card are Hermansson vs. Askham and Khabilov vs. Silva. The odds on the Askham vs. Hermansson fight are even, and rightfully so. I agree with the book that Khabilov should defeat Leandro Silva, but at odds of 1.28, it is not worth your money.
