Poirier vs. Johnson

Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier is on a four win fight streak with three out of four fights being first round finishes and two “performances of the night.” His last loss was to Conor Mc Gregor interestingly enough, while Micheal Johnson’s last loss was to Nate Diaz.

Poirier has shown power in his hands and solid takedown defense. Look for him to come out aggressive while watching out for the Johnson take down. Johnson is going to want to stay on the outside and use his speed to go in and out. He also has strong wrestling and can get a reactive take down if Poirier gets too aggressive coming straight forward.

I think Johnson can get the win here if Johnson can weather the storm in the first two rounds. He can use his wrestling to get top position and tire Poirier out on the fence. Pick Johnson 2.450 hedge Props Poirier in round 1 round 2 (not out yet)

Uriah Hall vs. Derek Brunson

A lot of people thought Hall would walk though everyone after seeing his striking on TUF. After losing in the TUF final, we have seen two different Uriah Halls. It is almost as if he has a split personality. There is the technical striker with brutal kicks, and that uses a variety of strikes to keep his opponent on his toes. Then there is the Hall that doubts himself. He sometimes doesn’t complete combinations, is very hesitant, lets himself get taken down and just thinks too much.

A lot of the time Hall is not fighting his opponent, Hall is fighting against himself. In this fight, he won’t have any time to fight himself.

Brunson is a beast standing and has top level division two wrestling. I can see Brunson backing Hall up and getting a takedown and from there dominating. Brunson is on a four win rampage with the last three fights ending in a round 1 finish. We all know that when Hall is in the fight mentally that he can end it in one strike. Brunson win 1.500 and fight doesn’t go the distance  2.050.

The undercard has a lot of new prospects and will be worth checking out what they have to offer. It is hard not to look past this card at next week when we see the return of Cyborg when she faces UFC newcomer Lansberg. They have to find someone for her to fight and this time got a newcomer from outside of the UFC. Also on that card Roy “Big Country” Nelson faces Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Then on Oct 1st Linker vs. Dodson and on Oct 8th Bisping vs. Henderson. The rest of this month and October is stacked.
