Moreover, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Bittrex in April on the grounds that it was running an unlicensed exchange. The exchange classified six cryptocurrencies, including Algoranda’s ALGO, as securities in the filing. In its lawsuit, the SEC claimed that Algorand (ALGO) was marketed as a security since it was initially offered as an investment contract.
So, the US regulatory action on ALGO may have been one of the factors driving the decision of Algorand’s Algofi to close down. Yet, it’s worth noting that Algorand’s Algofi did not specifically link its shutdown to any particular causes.
