That said, both leading meme coins have faltered lately, with both the Dogecoin and Shiba Inu prices down over 50% since their 2024 highs back in March.

Dogecoin on a downward spiral since March
Dogecoin is down over 50% from its yearly highs, but despite this, DOGE remains a popular choice among retail investors and speculators. Much of the confidence in Dogecoin is down to its strong community and backing from Elon Musk.

The Shiba Inu price is worrying for investors
The Shiba Inu price has dropped by almost 60% since its March highs, and while one can never write any leading meme coin off, it is a worry. Like DOGE, it has a strong community and will attract speculators once it starts to bounce back.
As we await the next alt season, Shiba Inu could continue its slide, but with the Federal Reserve expected to start slashing interest rates, cheap money is expected to pur into the space. And, of course, this is great for SHIB, and once the market moves, the Shiba Inu price will eventually reach new highs.
