Colorado sports betting is live and legal. That’s unlikely to change anytime soon, too, as the industry’s key players appear to be enjoying the current state of affairs. In January 2025, the state recorded its highest monthly tax revenue since legalization, a record $4.4 million.
That said, over a dozen sportsbooks have left the state since sports betting first launched, leaving residents with fewer gambling options to choose from. Sportsbooks regulated outside the US are further options for Coloradoans seeking more competitive odds, ongoing promotions, and large prize-pool contests.
Following an extensive review by our gambling experts, we have highlighted and discussed the best of these sportsbooks. The featured Colorado gambling sites offer multiple payment options, college prop bets, welcome and ongoing sports betting bonuses, and more.

In this section, we review our top 5 sportsbooks, noting their biggest highlights, key facts about Colorado sports betting promotions, and areas for improvement.
BetWhale – E-Sports Betting Hub with Live Twitch Streams and Convenient Payout Options
- Established in: 2023
- Headquarters: Willemstad, Curaçao
- Licensed in: Anjouan
- Accepted Payment Methods: Cards, Crypto
- Number of Sports: 20+
📍Overview
Launched in 2023, BetWhale is one of our top options for Colorado sports betting, primarily due to its Visa payout option, which makes it an excellent choice for players unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies.
🏈 Sports and Bet Types Offered
BetWhale offers betting odds and options on 20+ sports, including the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB. Despite being relatively new compared to competitors like BetOnline, Bovada, and BetUS, it is already regarded as one of the top esports betting platforms. It offers betting on games like League of Legends, CS:GO, and Dota 2, featuring Twitch streams and live betting options for those who enjoy following the action in real-time and making dynamic wagers as the game unfolds.
💵 Banking Methods
As we previously established, BetWhale is one of the few sportsbooks and casinos that offer a Visa payout option. Unlike BetOnline and many other competitors, it also provides multiple e-wallet options, including PayPal and Neosurf.
💰 Sportsbook Promotions
Where BetOnline’s biggest strength lies is where BetWhale falls short, unfortunately – in Colorado sportsbook bonuses. However, the Anjouan-licensed sports betting site offers daily reload bonuses and an attractive welcome bonus with no maximum cashout to compensate for that.
- Welcome Promotion: 125% up to $1,250
- Wagering Requirement: 10x
- Minimum Deposit: $50
- Expiration: 30 Days
- Additional Details: No max cashout and minimal odds until wagering is met
💡 Special Features
Another notable strength of BetWhale is its fee-free withdrawals. Other sites, in comparison, may charge fees for banking options such as wire transfers.
❌ Cons
BetWhale may need to increase its ongoing promotions to match those of big names like BetOnline.
BetOnline – Top Sports Betting App in Colorado for 2025
- Established in: 1991
- Headquarters: Panama City
- Licensed in: Panama
- Accepted Payment Methods: Cards, Wire Transfer, Crypto, Person2Person, Check
- Number of Sports: 30+
📍Overview

🏈 Sports and Bet Types Offered
With over 30 sports betting categories, you can place wagers on anything from popular Colorado teams like the Nuggets, Avalanche, or Rockies to niche markets like NASCAR betting, politics, entertainment, and financials on BetOnline. Using its parlay builder, you can stack bet options from the same or different games. For even greater payout, explore the odds boosters and mega parlays tab.
💵 Banking Methods
BetOnline’s deposit options include credit/debit cards, money orders, person-to-person transfers, Bitcoin, USDT, ETH, and over 10 alternative cryptocurrencies. Crypto has the highest deposit and payout limits, making it a user favorite on this betting site. However, other banking options also have decent limits.
💰 Sportsbook Promotions
BetOnline is debatably the best place to be if you are more particular about claiming high-value Colorado sports betting promotions. It offers numerous targeted Colorado sportsbook promotions, including the UFC Split Decision Refund, NHL Power Play Payday, and MLB Dime Lines, among others. There are also specials like Book My Bet, where you can suggest a non-standard prop bet to the BetOnline team to consider for publishing on the site.
- Welcome Promotion: 50% up to $250 in free bets
- Wagering Requirement: None
- Minimum Deposit: $50
- Expiration: 30 Days
- Additional Details: You are refunded half of your deposit in free bet credits with no restrictions
💡 Special Features
You can live stream games, create custom wagers on its ‘Book my Bet’ promotion, and place complex bets like if bets and teasers on BetOnline.
❌ Cons
- In our evaluation, BetOnline is a solid 10, but we would also like the Colorado sportsbook to consider adding e-wallet betting options in the future.
BetNow – Beginner-Friendly Sportsbook with Competitive Odds on the Nuggets in the Playoffs
- Established in: 2015
- Headquarters: London, England
- Licensed in: Curaçao
- Accepted Payment Methods: Mastercard, Wire Transfer, Crypto
- Number of Sports: 10+
📍Overview
BetNow is the ideal platform for newcomers to sports betting, offering a straightforward approach. The sportsbook’s interface is clean, and betting odds are easily accessible.
🏈 Sports and Bet Types Offered
BetNow focuses on the basics, offering bet options on major sports, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, golf betting, and college sports. We particularly liked its coverage of the Nuggets’ NBA Playoffs, featuring competitive betting odds on team totals, team props, and player props, such as the most three-pointers made in the series and the most assists in the series.
💵 Banking Methods
With only ten deposit methods, BetNow lacks the range that other sites, such as BetOnline, offer. However, you are good to go if you have a bank account that supports wire transfers and direct deposits, as well as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, and popular cryptocurrency options, such as BTC.
💰 Sportsbook Promotions
An industry-leading rebate program – 2% for sportsbooks and 10% rebates are some of its biggest highlights, but not the only ones to report. Other Colorado sportsbook promotions worth mentioning are its 200% welcome bonus and re-up bonuses up to 30%.

- Established in: 2011
- Headquarters: Costa Rica
- Licensed in: Union of Comoros
- Accepted Payment Methods: Card, Crypto, Gift Card, Wire Transfer
- Number of Sports: 20+
📍Overview
Bovada makes our list for its prop builder, among other things. What it lacks in payment options, it makes up for in quick payouts.
🏈 Sports and Bet Types Offered
You are in the right place if you want to place complex bets on Colorado’s local teams across the NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLB. It also offers bet options on 20+ other sports, with regular odds boosts on select games, and one of the best racebooks in the industry.
💵 Banking Methods
There are no e-wallet payments available, and the cryptocurrency options here are limited compared to those of competitors like BetOnline. However, Bovada is an excellent option if you are comfortable using a card, as it offers lower fees on card transactions compared to other sites. You also do not incur an additional charge on your first deposit. Yo
💰 Sportsbook Promotions
The rewards program at Bovada is one of our favorite Colorado sportsbook bonus programs. It has a tiered reward program where you can earn reward points each time you play. These points are redeemable for cash, playing credits, and other rewards.
- Welcome Promotion: 50% up to $250

- Minimum Deposit: $20
- Expiration: 6 months
- Additional Details: It offers a rewarding loyalty program with cashbacks and multiple poker tournaments

Legal Sports Betting in Colorado – Key Details
These are some must-knows about sports betting in Colorado:
What is the Legal Sports Betting Age in CO?
The legal sports betting age in Colorado is 21. This applies to both online and retail sports betting, as set by the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission and state regulations.
Which Authority Regulates Online Sports Betting in CO?
CO online sports betting is regulated by the Colorado Division of Gaming, a part of the Colorado Department of Revenue. The Division, established under the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission, ensures that online and retail sports betting activities comply with Colorado sports betting laws. Its oversight covers licensing, operator compliance, consumer protection, and revenue collection.
Are There Any Taxes on CO Online Sports Betting Winnings?
Online sports betting winnings in Colorado are subject to taxation. All gambling profits are taxed at the state and federal levels.
The state treats sports betting winnings as part of your state taxable income, and thus, they are subject to its flat income tax rate of 4.25%.
Sports betting winnings are considered taxable income at the federal level. Sportsbooks are required by law to issue a W-2G form to report taxes on gambling profits of over $600 or 300 times the wager. They may also be required to withhold 24% of the amount upfront in federal taxes if the winnings exceed $5,000. Smaller amounts are not automatically withheld, but you are expected to report them legally.
How do Colorado Online Gambling Laws Compare with Neighboring States?
You can bet freely in Colorado on as many as 19 active, U.S.-regulated sportsbooks. However, the situation is not the same with all of Colorado’s seven neighboring states. Utah is a no-go for any betting. New Mexico and Nebraska keep it old-school with casino-only sportsbooks, and Arizona’s got an online market that gives Colorado a run for its money. Let’s unpack the sports betting situation in each of these states.
Arizona
Online and retail sports betting are legal in Arizona. They were launched on September 9, 2021, following the passage of SB 1163, which granted exclusivity to tribal casinos and professional sports venues.
There are up to 20 active sports betting operators, and daily fantasy sports (DFS) is also legal in the state.
Kansas
Kansas sports betting is legal and active. There are currently only six active Kansas sportsbooks, but the state’s gambling framework permits as many as 12 online sports betting sites.
As with Colorado, Kansas residents can bet on any pro and college sports.
Nebraska
Sports betting in Nebraska is strictly in-person, with four retail sportsbooks located at casinos, such as WarHorse in Lincoln. Online betting in Nebraska, however, is currently not legal, although Sen. Eliot Bostar’s March 2025 push could change that in a few months. The Senator’s proposition aims to get online sports betting on the 2026 ballot.
If it passes, Nebraskans would be able to choose if they want sports betting. Also, for now, you can’t wager on in-state college teams like the Huskers at home games or place prop bets on college athletes.
New Mexico
All sports bets in New Mexico must occur in person. Like Nebraska, there are currently no active online sportsbooks operating legally in the state. However, you can bet online on horse races via sites like TVG and FanDuel Racing.
Six of the state’s tribal casinos offer sports betting. Daily fantasy sports and social sportsbooks are also available in the Centennial State.
Oklahoma
Despite multiple attempts to legalize sports betting in Oklahoma, including the Thunder Bill, which would have allowed licenses for tribal and NBA teams, the state’s sports betting market remains unregulated. Residents are prohibited from placing sports bets online or in person.
Although not explicitly legal under Colorado sports betting laws, daily fantasy sports and social sportsbooks accept contest entries from Oklahoma residents.
Utah
Sports betting in Utah is not legal, nor is gambling in general. It is also one of only five U.S. states without a state lottery. The state has deep-rooted ties to the Mormon faith, so sports betting might not be coming to the state anytime soon.
However, surprisingly, the state does not have a firm stance against daily fantasy sports or social sportsbooks. The biggest operators in this industry accept contests and tournament entries from the state.
Wyoming
As with Colorado, sports betting in Wyoming is live and legal. But unlike the Centennial state, it runs an online-only model.
Although sports betting was introduced as early as 2021, there are still only five sportsbook apps available in the state. The legal betting age here is 18 compared to Colorado’s 21.
Colorado Sports Betting Timeline – The Road to Legislation
The road to legalizing sports betting in CO was short and quick. Lawmakers and residents showed enthusiasm, and within 2 years of PASPA’s abolishment, up to 26 sportsbooks were launched in the state. Let’s take a closer look at the journey to legalization in Colorado.
- 2025 – The state reports a 1.3% increase in net revenue.
- 2024 – The House and Senate pass a bill to remove the cap on sports betting tax revenue. BetWay, SuperBook, and Tipico sportsbooks all exited the state.
- 2023 – Sky Ute sportsbook and Maverick Sports both leave, while Betfred absorbs Elite Sportsbook.
- 2022 – MaximBet and theScore Bet leave the state.
- 2021 – The number of active sportsbooks nearly doubles, and by the end of the year, 26 online sportsbooks had already launched. This includes Sky Ute, one of the state’s few tribal options.
- 2020 – Both online and retail sports betting were launched. The COVID-19 pandemic stalled in-person wagering, while up to 15 online sports betting sites had begun operation before the end of the year. Colorado voters overwhelmingly support Amendment 77, allowing casinos to raise maximum single bet limits for several table games to any amount.
- 2019 – Rep. Alec Garnett, the House majority leader, presented a bill to legalize sports betting in the state. It narrowly passed the chambers of the Colorado General Assembly on the last day of the session. However, due to Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights, it must be placed on the ballot for voters to choose before it can become law. Colorado voters vote on Proposition DD, which wins by a small margin.
- 2018 – The U.S. Supreme Court overruled the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), giving the states the right to choose whether they want sports betting or not.

Bank Transfers
Bank transfers, although slow to process, are a go-to for many high rollers. This is because they handle huge payouts, far more than e-wallets or cards allow.

Popular Bet Types at Online Colorado Sports Betting Sites
Some of the most popular bet types available at online Colorado sports betting sites include:
Moneylines
This is a straightforward bet on which team or player will win a matchup. The odds determine the payout on a moneyline bet. In an NBA game between the Los Angeles Clippers (-125) and the Denver Nuggets (+105), a $100 bet on the Nuggets would payout a $105 profit if the bet is successful.
However, you would need to wager $125 on the Clippers to win $100 in profit if your bet was successful. Typically, the favorite is assigned minus odds, and the underdogs, positive odds.
Point Spreads
Point spread betting is a bet on the margin of victory. You bet on whether a team beats the “spread”. Consider the example below.
The spread of the game is referred to as the ‘run line‘ in baseball betting, and it is, as with the example, usually set at 1.5 runs. A bet on the Braves only wins if they win by two runs or more. If you bet on the Rockies instead, your bet still wins if they lose by one run, tie, or win the game.
Totals (Over/Under)
Here, the sportsbook sets a line, and you bet on whether the total number of points/goals/runs will be under or over this line. In the provided example, over 9.5 (10 runs scored) is priced at -101, while under 9.5 is priced at -119.
Futures
A futures bet involves predicting the outcome of an event or tournament in advance. For example, a bet on the winner of the Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, or NBA Championship before the regular season even starts.
Props
Proposition bets are wagers on specific stats from a player or team. Think about betting on how many points Nikola Jokić scores or the Nuggets’ total rebounds.
Parlays
A parlay is a combination bet of multiple bets. For your bet to win, all predictions added to the betslip must be correct.
Live Betting
Live betting, also known as in-play betting, involves betting on a game(s) while it is on. The odds change often to reflect the game’s dynamics.
Betting on Colorado’s Favorite Sports
The Centennial state boasts a vibrant sports culture, featuring teams in each of the country’s major professional leagues, as well as up to eight teams in collegiate leagues. There’s also a lot to cheer about with the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche’s recent successes. Let’s have a closer look at Colorado’s major local sports teams and where you can wager on them.
NFL
The Denver Broncos are Colorado’s representative in the National Football League (NFL). The AFC West team has amassed three Super Bowl wins, with the last in 2015.
The Broncos have had a better past, but with the emergence of rookie quarterback Bo Nix and 2025 NFL Draft additions like Jahdae Barron and RJ Harvey, they could well turn the division on its head. Bovada offers a wide range of betting options on the NFL, as well as alternative leagues such as the UFL, college football betting, and the CFL.
NBA
The Denver Nuggets, led by the Serbian big man Nikola Jokic, have been phenomenal lately. The 41st overall pick’s arrival marked the beginning of a transformative era for the franchise, culminating in the 2023 NBA Championship. The Nuggets have consistently made it to the playoffs since 2019, making a repeat performance this year a market worth exploring.
You can find competitive betting odds on the NBA playoffs on our top pick, BetOnline. It also offers odds boosts, same-game parlays, and other promotions, including Book My Bet and NBA One-Point Payback.
NHL
The Colorado Avalanche is another successful team in Denver. They have the league record for most consecutive Division titles (9) and won their second Stanley Cup in 2022.

Colorado Sports Betting – Conclusion
Colorado was among the first states to legalize sports betting, but the number of sportsbooks available has dropped significantly. By the end of 2021, 26 online sportsbooks operated in the state; now, only 13 remain, representing a 50% decrease in the number of online sportsbooks. This means fewer choices for bettors in the state.
Fortunately, offshore sportsbooks like BetOnline offer a great alternative. They offer a wide range of betting options on major U.S. professional and college sports and international events such as tennis and cycling. You’ll also find exciting promotions, contests, and unique markets, such as politics and entertainment, giving bettors plenty to explore.
