This is the first Bitcoin-focused conference in Maribor. The conference, dubbed ‘Bitcoin Conference on the Sunny Side of the Alps’, welcomes some of the top Bitcoin speakers and pioneers around the world.
Leading Bitcoin hashrate marketplace NiceHash has announced its first-ever Bitcoin-focused conference in Maribor, Slovenia. The event is special to the company as it marks the first time the two Slovenian-born co-founders of NiceHash, Marko Kobal and Matjaž Škorjanc, see the company return to its founding country to educate and boost the adoption of Bitcoin via a conference.
The event aims to offer an interesting and little-known entry point to the European crypto market. Styled as the ‘Bitcoin Conference on the Sunny Side of the Alps,’ the event will take place in Maribor over two days on November 8 and 9, commemorating a decade of operation for the hashrate marketplace founded by the two Slovenian students in 2014.
On what the conference is set to embody, Vladimir Hozjan, CEO of NiceHash, stated the goals of the event while welcoming Bitcoin aficionados to the event, saying:
“We are delighted to welcome the world to discover how Slovenia is leading the way in European Bitcoin adoption. Join us as we celebrate, and witness Bitcoin in its purest form, used by everyday people, alongside some of the brightest speakers in the industry.”
Maribor: A Growing Hub For Bitcoin Adoption
Nestled in the foothills of the Pohorje Mountains, a popular skiing destination, and with wine-growing hills close by, Maribor is a stunning destination for visitors, notable for its stunning architecture, cozy cafes, and laid-back atmosphere. It was named the European Capital of Culture in 2012.
Slovenia has grown into one of the most tolerant states in adopting Bitcoin, with over 1000 businesses and merchants accepting Bitcoin as payment. The event is aimed at encouraging more people to view Maribor and Slovenia as a whole as a hub for Bitcoin, similar to Zug, Switzerland. The event also will spotlight several local Maribor companies actively using the technology. At the event, attendees will have a chance to view, learn about and interact with these local enterprises in multiple stages around the event.
“With 10 years of experience in this industry, we have witnessed phenomenal growth in the interest of using Bitcoin, here in Maribor and around the country,” Hozjan added on the immaculate growth of Bitcoin adoption in Slovenia.
Slovenia ranks second in the number of blockchain startups in Europe, trailing Switzerland, and one of the highest-ranking countries globally in Bitcoin adoption rate per capita. The country boasts many Bitcoin-themed places in Slovenian cities, such as BTC City in Ljubljana and the Satoshi Monument. The many businesses already accepting Bitcoin include restaurants, hotels, cafes, supermarkets, and more, while the number of Slovenian crypto users is expected to reach 385,700 by 2028, nearly 20% of the population.
