Is Bitcoin Suriname’s Future? Presidential Candidate Makes Bold Pitch

Now that the US elections have been settled in favor of pro-Bitcoin Republican Donald Trump, the spotlight turns to other countries with similar Bitcoin dreams.

Suriname, a South American country, wants to join the conversations by teasing a full adoption of Bitcoin. Maya Parbhoe, Suriname’s presidential candidate, promises to make Bitcoin a legal tender.

Parbhoe aims to end Suriname’s systematic corruption by fully embracing the Bitcoin standard and making the country independent. The candidate also predicted that other countries would follow suit once she started using Bitcoin as a legal tender.

Suriname’s Bitcoin Plan As Inspired By El Salvador’s Experience

In a statement, Parbhoe shared that her campaign agenda is inspired by Switzerland and El Salvador’s experiences. The government introduced the free currency competition in Switzerland, and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele is a vocal Bitcoin supporter.

According to Parbhoe’s Bitcoin plan, her administration plans to remove Suriname’s central bank, a financial institution established in 1957. The Maya Plan also included a proposal to introduce free currency competition.

The Suriname dollar has inflated recently due to the country’s inflation rate, currency devaluation, and struggling economy. Parbhoe also proposes the establishment of the first blockchain-based capital market and help the economy grow through Bitcoin bonds.

The Maya Plan On Bitcoin, Blockchain, And The Economy

Parbhoe shared a specific list of targets for Suriname if she is elected president. In one of her many interviews, Maya said Bitcoin is an excellent tool for restoring power to the people. She said the country is allowing its people to earn in satoshis by fully embracing the Bitcoin standard. Parbhoe believes that prices of imported goods will drop if this plan succeeds.

Aside from fully adopting the Bitcoin standard, Parbhoe aims to start a blockchain-based platform that offers real-time public decisions and financial updates. Like El Salvador and other Bitcoin-focused countries, Suriname, under her leadership, will promote decentralized governance with a clear separation of powers.

Poland’s Mentzen Also Calls For Bitcoin Adoption

The list of countries proposing to make Bitcoin a legal tender continues to increase. Aside from Suriname’s Parbhoe, Poland’s candidate for president is also pitching for a full adoption of Bitcoin.

Slawomir Mentzen of the New Hope Party is proposing the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve. In 2018, Mentzen suggested that offices and municipal schools mine Bitcoin.

In a Twitter/X post on November 18th, Mentzer said he plans to transform Poland’s financial reserves into Bitcoin. He admitted that the plan may seem abstract today, but the decision to adopt BTC will make sense in the next few years.
