Venom Foundation is joining forces with DoraHacks, Developer DAO, and Hacken to host their inaugural virtual hackathon. The event will give developers the tools and resources to create on the Venom blockchain. Registration starts on April 27th, 2023, with the hackathon officially launching on May 8th, 2023.
Venom’s Testnet Launch Paves the Way for the Hackathon
This hackathon follows the recent launch of Venom’s testnet, which went live earlier this week. This critical development will attract new users and developers to the platform.
The testnet enables developers to test and debug decentralized applications (dApps) and blockchain protocols while offering users a firsthand experience of these dApps.
The primary objective of the testnet is to foster innovation and community growth within the ecosystem, setting the stage for more significant events, with the hackathon as the first of many.
Partnerships with DoraHacks, Developer DAO, and Hacken
Venom’s organizing partner for the hackathon is DoraHacks, a global hackathon organizer and one of the most proactive Web3 developer incentive platforms. Developer DAO and Hacken will contribute marketing and incentives support for the event.
Developers, individuals, and teams can submit applications after the opening ceremony. Participants must submit their projects by June 10th, 2023.
A panel of judges, each with their expertise, will evaluate the submitted projects. Some notable judges include Peter Knez, former CIO of Blackrock, and David Atkinson, co-founder of Holochain.
Participants can choose to develop a project based on one of three tracks—(i) Web3, NFTs, and Gaming, (ii) DeFi, and (iii) Tools and Infrastructure. Over five weeks, the hackathon will test participants’ skills and creativity in developing solutions such as soulbound tokens, stablecoins, or crypto wallets.
Opening Ceremony, Workshops, and the Grand Finale
The hackathon will begin with an opening ceremony on May 8th, followed by workshops held over multiple days. These workshops will cover crucial topics such as creating smart contracts, crafting non-fungible TIP-4 tokens, and connecting a dApp UI to Venom.
The event will culminate with an awards ceremony on June 17th, 2023. The top three winners from each category will be announced, with the first-place winners receiving $30,000 each. The first-place winners across all categories will also benefit from a complimentary security audit from Hacken, sponsored by Venom.
Additionally, three teams in each category will receive honorary mentions and be awarded $3,000 each. The total prize pool for the hackathon amounts to $225,000, a sum that encompasses cash prizes, security audits, and other incentives.
