Top 9 Best Platforms to Buy and Sell Domains in 2025

Internet domains have come a long way since their first appearance in the 1980s. As the internet established itself as a truly global phenomenon with billions of users in virtually every corner of the planet, many high-value top-level domains (TLDs) have been bought and sold for tens—if not hundreds—of millions of dollars.

With most desirable .com domains snapped up years ago, many users have turned to less common domain endings, such as .ai, .io, or .co. Additionally, blockchain-based (Web3) domains have entered the scene, offering brand-new domain extensions like .eth and .defi, along with unique crypto-specific functionalities.

A great domain can make or break a business, so it’s no surprise that secondary domain marketplaces have grown significantly in popularity over the past decade. Those looking to acquire a truly impactful domain are often forced to buy it from an existing owner.

This article will highlight the best domain marketplaces in 2025, covering both traditional (Web2) and crypto (Web3) platforms.

Web2 and Web3 integrated domain trading marketplaces

Freename Aftermarket

Leading the list is the only currently available marketplace that brings together both traditional domains and novel Web3 domains in a true one-stop solution. By signing up on Freename Aftermarket, users can buy and sell virtually any kind of domain—from classic .coms to high-value .eth domains.

Unlike other Web3 domain platforms (such as ENS or Unstoppable Domains), which are typically limited to their own native domain endings, Freename Aftermarket is open to all domains—including those of its competitors. Furthermore, those who purchased their domain on Freename’s domain registry can put them up for sale on its secondary market in only one click.

Perhaps most interestingly, users can also buy and sell fractional ownership of both Web2 and Web3 domains. This is especially compelling for ultra high-value domains, such as chat.com, which was recently sold for a staggering $15 million. On Freename Aftermarket, users can acquire small stakes in similar domains—opening the door to future profits that would otherwise be out of reach.

Freename’s parent platform has received highly favorable reviews, boasting an average Trustpilot score of 4.5 out of 5. Currently, Freename Aftermarket charges 0% in fees for a limited time, though this is expected to change soon. The platform supports fiat payments (e.g. credit card, Google/Apple Pay) and various cryptocurrencies.

Web2 domain trading marketplaces

Sedo

Sedo is one of the oldest and most reputable Web2 domain marketplaces, though its influence and customer satisfaction seem to have slightly declined in recent years. The platform reportedly lists over 24 million domains at any given time and facilitates around 3,500 sales per month. Additionally, Sedo offers a dedicated broker service to handle negotiations and even reach out to domain owners whose assets aren’t listed on the platform.

While Sedo’s reviews are mostly positive (average score: 3.9), some users argue that the platform’s approach “undermines the principles of a free and open web,” while others note that they “found the website to be extremely confusing and not user-friendly.”

Flippa

Flippa is a platform dedicated to buying and selling digital businesses, including apps, websites, games, content, and—of course—domains. It’s generally well-regarded in entrepreneurial circles and features several high-value domains, such as product.com and adults.com. That said, dedicated domain marketplaces typically offer a broader selection of domains compared to Flippa.

While Flippa holds a respectable Trustpilot rating of 4.2 out of 5, around 21% of its reviews are 1-star. Several users have complained about unfair treatment and poor customer support.

DAN

Owned by one of the most well-known domain registrars, GoDaddy, DAN is a popular Web2 domain marketplace appreciated for its simplicity and excellent domain offerings. Users can either search for domains using keywords, browse popular available domains, filter for three-letter domains, or look at the most premium domains such as tech.com or net.com.

With a Trustpilot rating of 4.0, DAN is viewed favorably by most of its customers, although there are still several voices critizising the company for hiccups during transactions.

Atom

Atom offers an excellent user experience for Web2 domain buyers and sellers. The platform exclusively features expertly curated domains, deliberately excluding low-value listings. Atom also categorizes its inventory into standard domains, Ultra Premium Domains—particularly memorable names like buzzer.com or shiny.com—and Sapphire Domains, which are single-word English names with alternative endings, such as princess.io or breeze.ai.

The platform has received outstanding reviews so far, with users praising its curated selection and ease of use.

GNAME

GNAME is another popular domain platform that not only supports domain trading but also offers domain registration, expired domain searches, and various cloud services such as hosting and SSL certificates.

Its domain marketplace is arguably smaller than those of most competitors, but it includes a wide range of unconventional domain names and provides users with helpful tools to assess the true value of these atypical assets.

That said, GNAME has the lowest ratings of all the platforms listed here, with a Trustpilot score of just 3.5 and over 55% of reviews being 1-star at the time of writing.

Web3 domain trading marketplaces

UnstoppableDomains Marketplace

Unstoppable Domains Marketplace is a Web3-only domain trading platform. Primarily known as a Web3 domain registry, UD’s marketplace allows users to buy and sell domains with UD-specific extensions, such as .crypto and .x, both operating on the Polygon blockchain.

Unstoppable Domains has received generally favorable reviews on Trustpilot. While users praise the platform’s modern interface and additional functionalities that help maximize the utility of a Web3 domain, it has been repeatedly criticized for poor customer support—resulting in a striking 31% of one-star reviews.

Vision

Vision is a Web3 domain marketplace primarily based on the Ethereum blockchain. Similar to Freename, Vision says it enables users to purchase, sell, and manage both Web2 domains and Web3 domains in one platform.

There are however two key distinctions. First, Web3 domains only support Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domains, such as .eth. This means that other domains and blockchains, such as .defi or Polygon, are not available on Vision. Additionally, its traditional Web2 domains don’t actually support importing real .com (and other) extensions, but rather NFTs of these domains, which severely limits its use. Additionally, payments can only be made with Ethereum-based currencies.

OpenSea (ENS Marketplace)

As the premier Ethereum-based domain service, ENS offers the highly sought-after .eth domains. On OpenSea, more than 3.5 million ENS domains are currently available for purchase. OpenSea has built a strong reputation as one of the largest and most trusted NFT marketplaces, enabling users to trade everything from NFT-based trading cards and in-game items to memes, artwork, memberships, music—and, of course, domains.

However, while the platform is hugely popular among crypto and NFT enthusiasts, it isn’t specifically designed for domain trading and therefore lacks key functionalities offered by platforms like Unstoppable Domains and Freename Aftermarket.

The bottom line

Internet domains have undergone significant changes in recent years. What began with a .com frenzy decades ago has evolved into a fragmented market filled with countless domain extensions, including those from obscure island nations like Anguilla (.ai) and the British Indian Ocean Territory (.io). More recently, the emergence of Web3 domains has marked yet another major shift—introducing new functionalities such as accepting crypto-based payments and enabling fractional domain ownership.

As these innovations create new revenue opportunities, choosing the right platform has become more important than ever. With the help of this guide, you’ll be able to identify the platform that best matches your needs and strategy—setting you up for success in both Web2 and Web3 domain trading.
