On September 20, 2017, Hong Kong played host to the Blockchain Global Summit. One of the highlights of the event was the much-anticipated premiere of Bitcoin – Shape the Future, a documentary that explores Bitcoin’s growth in China.
Many readers may recall that this year’s Blockchain Global Summit was originally scheduled to be held in Beijing earlier this month. Due to recent legislation by the Chinese government, however, the decision was made to hold the event in Hong Kong instead. It is heartening to report that attendance at this year’s Summit appeared to be unaffected by what many consider to be the heavy-handedness of China’s government regarding cryptocurrencies and exchanges.

The Premiere of Bitcoin – Shape the Future
Without a doubt, the crowning jewel of this year’s Summit was the premiere of the Chinese documentary Bitcoin – Shape the Future. The highly anticipated film was produced by BitKan with support from Bitmain, Huobi, Bixin, and ViaBTC. As previously reported by Bitcoinist, the documentary was directed by well-known Chinese director Li Yunqi and BitKan Co-CEO Fanny Yu, and with photography by renowned photographer Du Peng.
The documentary is a beautifully executed exploration of the history of Bitcoin’s growth in China that took the film crew across the country – from Beijing to Dongguan, Shenzhen to Hong Kong, and even the far-flung reaches of Inner Mongolia – to interview people from all levels of involvement with Bitcoin.
Over the course of six months, they interviewed over twenty industry leaders from tech companies, exchanges, mining equipment manufacturers, and mining farms to provide a detailed account of China’s contributions to the success of Bitcoin as well as its impact on the cryptocurrency community.
Bitcoin – Shape the Future is now publicly available to view in its entirety:
