Web3 gaming studio Mythical Games has inked another licensing deal, and this time it’s with a sportswear giant. Following successful licensing agreements with the NFL and then FIFA, Mythical has followed up with a similar arrangement with global sports brand adidas. The company, Europe’s largest sportswear manufacturer, is bringing its distinctive aesthetic to FIFA Rivals, the latest game to be released under the Mythical banner.
adidas Kicks Off Mythical Collaboration
As if the hype surrounding the release of FIFA Rivals wasn’t intense enough, Mythical has given football fans a fresh reason to be savoring the game’s release. Thanks to official FIFA licensing, the game was already confirmed to be enhanced by football stars from the world’s top clubs performing trick shots and being tradable within the built-in marketplace. Now, those same stars are guaranteed to be looking fly because adidas is supplying the jerseys.
In addition to football kits, adidas will be providing a range of exclusive digital wearables including football boots, all of which can be acquired and traded within FIFA Rivals. The deal adds to the feeling of authenticity that players will experience upon entering the game while further attesting to the growing reach of web3 gaming, which is routinely now able to entice the world’s largest companies and sporting bodies into the fold.
Welcoming a Football Icon
adidas is almost as old as professional football itself, having been founded in 1920, but it wasn’t until 1948 that it acquired its current name and iconic three-stripe logo. In 1954, the German football team won the World Cup for the first time wearing adidas boots and the company has gone from strength to strength in the decades since.
Having conquered the physical world, rising to become the largest manufacturer of football apparel, adidas now seems intent on following suit in the digital domain. And in Mythical Games, it’s found a partner that understands the value of sports IP and its ability to unlock new experiences for fans of the game.
“Bringing adidas into this world gives players a deeper cultural connection and the chance to represent one of the most iconic brands in football – on and off the pitch,” said Mythical Games CEO John Linden. “This collaboration sets a new standard for how brands show up in digital experiences.”
adidas Swag to Sweeten the Deal
While it’s fair to say Mythical Games fans are excited about the gameplay first and foremost, the presence of adidas swag in FIFA Rivals will certainly sweeten the deal. There’s the prospect of classic adidas kits to look forward to – as well as some futuristic jersey designs exclusive to the game. adidas has also promised to release limited edition footie boots in FIFA Rivals whose availability is correlated with real-world player performance.
There’s a limited-edition adidas matchball to put the laces through and an adidas training facility where players can showcase their skills, master new ones, and complete challenges. All in all, the adidas collab looks like leveling up every major element of the game, adding an additional incentive layer – as if gamers weren’t already psyched enough about the prospect of dominating their rivals on the pitch.
With FIFA Rivals finally poised to make its global debut on iOS and Android on June 12, the countdown to kick-off is almost complete.
